I lived in Portsmouth for almost a year before finding out about this place. The reviews were good so we decided to try it this past Sunday. We had the dog so we ordered for takeout. I definitely want to come back and dine in as it looks like a nice date spot. I went with the crab cake sandwich which comes with fries, but I added mac'n cheese and collard greens. My friend ordered the fried pork chops with mash potatoes and cabbage. The meal comes with corn bread and we ordered a slice of sweet potato pie. It took about 35 minutes, but it was worth the wait. Food was fresh and delicious, good portions...soul food done right! We were satisfied with everything and will definitely be back. Glad to add this to my list for great eats!
If you’re looking for real southern grandma’s kitchen type of food I would highly recommend this restaurant! I went two weekends in row. To highlight a few items….the turkey wings are cooked to perfection and the collard greens & cornbread was nothing but the truth. My daughter loves the chicken and waffles, however, the fried sweet potatoes and apple pies were horrible…. pastries can be hard to make so I would give them a pass. Finally, the staff was amazing, very friendly and attentive. Oh…I almost forgot about the price….I spent under $50 for three people and $35 for two on my second visit.
If anyone who hasn't tried this place it's amazing!when I walked on the food smelled amazing!I got the smothered turkey wings ,cabbage,&Mac &cheese soooo Goodwood nothing needed any extra salt ,will definitely be going back to get more food
It was my cousin idea to come here and im glad we did because everything tasted amazing i got the catfish with collard greens, cabbage and cornbread, for starters i got liver and onions which came with rice and gravy and I ordered their signature drink District which all tasted so good, our waitress (i forgot her name) but she eas amazing and attentive
I've been here twice and let's say, this is my favorite place! The staff was very friendly and the food is sooooo good and affordable. So far I have tried the wings, grilled shrimp, fried shrimp (huge and juicy), crab cake (lump with barely any filling), turkey chops(favor is so good), steak, cabbage(the best) and cornbread. The only thing I didn't care for was the cornbread, it's more like cake bread, but not bad if you like that. My adult beverage was good too! Every week, I will be in the building! I love the atmosphere as well🩷
The food was not that great. The Lamb Chops was tough and drenched with a weird tasting sauce. The collar greens was good. The Mac N Cheese was okay, I wish I had gotten only sides because the lamb chops were not good at all. The music was awesome we really enjoyed ourselves dancing to the old school songs. I will go back because of the DJ and maybe just get sides or a soda. The atmosphere was amazing.
Went here for a late lunch. Got the liver and rice for an appetizer and it was so bomb. Entree got crab cakes turkey wings Mac and cheese yams and cornbread. Baby that crab cake was so filled with crab and moist and then turkey legs was very seasoned and tender and that Mac and cheese and cabbage with that cornbread being sweet like cake. Them drinks was strong I got the strawberry martini !! 10/10
Very nice establishment. Delicious food. Professional staff. While celebrating Valentines day i had the catfish dinner with collard greens, cabbage, rice smothered in sausage, grilled onions and gravy, fried shrimp. Hubby had fried pork chops collards and candied yams. All of the food was bursting with flavor. Drinks were on point as well. They have Happy Hour until 8pm with really good deals on food and drinks. Definitely will be back again.
This place was awesome! The food was delicious! Service outstanding and the atmosphere and decor was very excellent. First time and won’t be my last.
3/5 Stars — Strong hospitality, but the food does not match the price tag.I want to love this place because the vibe is fantastic and you can rent it out for events. Our server was very friendly, and the drinks were the highlight of the night. Unfortunately, the kitchen needs serious help. Our food took so long to arrive that I ended up boxing my entree to eat at home. For a $126 bill, the quality just wasn't there. The shrimp was overly salty, the cabbage was unseasoned, and the mac and cheese tasted exactly like boxed Kraft. Great staff, but I won't be back for the food.
